Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. Windows 10 PCs still turn on, but they no longer receive free security updates. For UAE businesses handling customer data, invoices and payments, that is a risk worth closing. Here is a practical refresh checklist.
What "end of support" means
- No more free security fixes or technical assistance for Windows 10 from 14 Oct 2025.
- Extended Security Updates (ESU) for consumers run until 12 October 2027. Businesses can buy ESU, but it is a stop-gap, not a plan.
- Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 get security updates until 10 October 2028.
The 6-step refresh checklist
- Inventory. List every PC, its CPU, RAM and whether it meets Windows 11 requirements (TPM 2.0, supported CPU).
- Decide upgrade vs. replace. Recent machines may upgrade to Windows 11. Older ones (pre-8th-gen Intel) usually need replacing.
- Choose the form factor. All-in-One PCs for clean front-office desks; compact towers for flexibility; business laptops for mobile staff.
- Standardise. Fewer models mean easier support. Pick 2–3 standard configurations.
- Budget early. IDC's June 2026 forecast expects average PC prices to rise this year due to a memory shortage, with no meaningful relief before the end of 2027. Locking in pricing sooner can help.
- Plan data migration and disposal. Back up, migrate, then securely wipe old drives.
